OCSCD was a proud sponsor of the 2024 Fall Festival, hosted by Common Grounds Community Garden at the John F. Patrick Sports Complex on Saturday, November 3. This was the second annual Fall Festival, which drew crowds of about 800 people.
OCSCD Erosion Control Specialist, Brittany Moore, and Education Coordinator, Becky Laboy shared information with the public about one of our local partner projects, the Lakewood Township Stormwater Basins Retrofit Project, featuring our Self Guided Tour Map.
In addition, OCSCD engaged kids with a fun and educational soil profile activity that introduced them to soil’s colorful horizons.
The Fall Festival featured a photo booth, petting zoo, crafts for kids, and many exhibitors displaying educational materials and advertising educational programs for families. Lakewood Township Mayor Raymond Coles and Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller were in attendance.
This past spring, OCSCD and Common Grounds Community Garden collaborated on the installation of a Pollinator Garden, which can be seen in the photo above in its muted green and brown autumn glory, planted around the perimeter of the chain link fence surrounding the raised beds within. In addition, OCSCD partnered with Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority to bring educational programs to the community, within the garden setting.
OCSCD looks forward to nurturing and strengthening our relationship with Common Grounds Community Garden, and making meaningful connections with the surrounding community!
